Stay at Laborie

On Friday the 6th of March, the lovely Shante Hutton (from Jhordan's Sister) was wonderfully invited to stay over at Laborie Wines and she decided to take me along - thank you, Shante! :) We were invited to experience staying, eating and relaxing at Laborie and it all resulted in a rather lovely day, indeed!

Upon arrival, we headed to Laborie's newest addition, the Taste terrace which overlooks their beautiful vineyards, to sip on their crisp bubblies. D and I served their MCC at our wedding and it was really nice to enjoy it again! Taste was recently launched and offers an array of divine tapas for anyone to enjoy with friends or as a romantic date night, as well as bringing live music every Friday!

After late morning bubbly, we were taken to our room which was cosy with decor that was simple yet stylish. Various size rooms are available, depending on your needs, including family and self catering units. Staff are friendly and happy to cater to all your needs which makes for a really relaxed stay - there really isn't anything worse than staff who make you feel like you're bothering them when you're staying somewhere lovely,

Our room was also well-stocked with complementary wine and a bottle of bubbly and two glasses for us to enjoy at our leisure.

Once we had put our bags down, we realised that we were famished and decided to head to Laborie's main restaurant, Harvest for lunch. Set under wonderfully old oak trees, Harvest overlooks the beautiful city of Paarl and features a wonderful menu with a wide variety of dishes complemented by wine pairing suggestions underneath each dish. I opted for a beef carpaccio starter and a sustainably sourced Kabeljou mains, whilst Shante opted for a Tempura Prawn & Avo started with the same mains as me. Each meal was absolutely delicious and paired brilliantly with our chosen KWV Chardonnay.

Once we had indulged our tummies, we headed to the pool which is surrounded by the Suidagter Paarl mountain range and was unbelievably relaxing. We sipped on our bubbly in the sun and cooled off in the pool until about 5pm, when we decided to head to Taste for some tapas for dinner.

Usually, I'm not a food sharing person, but when they come in small tapas-sized portions and you order a host of combinations like trout pate, duck croquettes, tempura hake, calamari and falafel pitas, you have to know it's a winner! Although the calamari was slightly rubbery, everything else was absolutely divine and it really was an lovely evening. We were also surrounded by the lovely tunes of live music which really brought it altogether.

After dinner, we decided to finish off the evening with a slow sip of craft beer at Laborie's Bar di Bar. Their newly added beer bar is truly amazing with a beer wall and a transportable beer combi that can be hired out for events. They even have a jukebox which really adds a fun element.

With full tummies and smiles on our faces, Shante and I headed off to comfy beds to enjoy a good nights sleep. It really was a Friday like no other, the weather was perfect, and our time at Laborie was definitely amazing. If you're looking for a weekend getaway or an evening for dinner and beer or wine, Laborie is the place to be. I will definitely be heading there again, before summer is over!
